Ribeira Brava is an independent city on the isolated island of Madeira, in the Portuguese Autonomous Region. It runs along the southern coast east of Ponta do Sol. The municipality earned its name for its magnificent gushing river. The name Ribeira Brava translates to "The Angry River". During the rainy seasons, the river becomes rapidly turbulent as it makes its way to the sea. It is also notorious for inflicting havoc over 8 km (5 Miles) of the route.
